Good news [Feb. 20th, 2009|09:39 pm]
The Jaguar has passed today's MOT.

So it is with us for another year!

Ignoring the long list of  "advisorys" it only failed on "sharp edges on the rust holes". Peter applied some gaffer tape and the certificate was ours.

Now to fix all the bits to make it steer in a predicable fashion.

A breath of summer [Feb. 10th, 2009|10:14 pm]
According to the notes, on the 25th August last year I was making pear wine from the fruit trees in the back garden.

I recall sitting in shorts and Tshirt on the back patio boiling up vats of hot pear stew on a sunny sunday afternoon.

After 6 months snoozing in the vat the wine is being bottled. Tonight is bottling night. There is frost on the car, and the fire is eating coal like fat girl munching cakes. What an odd climate we live in.

Most of this week is bottling week. Tedious and boring work. Probably some kind of cosmic re-balancing after a fine and decadent weekend.

Man flu [Nov. 5th, 2008|10:34 am]
Brain full of cotton wool. Hot water bottles will become the dominate life form.

Brain very confused.

Happy to see they've made that nice Lewis Hamilton chap president.

more oil [Oct. 27th, 2008|07:36 pm]
and now down to 94.9p... try harder next time OPEC.

And other good news from the financial markets. The exchange rates say only 1.54 dollars to the pound. As a portion of my income is in dollars, I prefer to think of it as 0.646 pounds to the dollar :-)  Much better than the 0.5 £ per $ we had earlier this year.

One will make hay, despite the much vaunted gloomy outlook. :-)

Petrol joy [Oct. 22nd, 2008|04:24 pm]
Petrol is now below a quid a litre.  For the first time in ages today I was able to watch the litre number on the pump go up faster than the money number - quite a joy, I can tell you.

In fact it is almost the same price it was this time last year. There has been at least a 20p/litre drop since only July.

My little pocket calculator tells me that 20p/litre saves me £18.40 on a tank.

Book boredom [Oct. 22nd, 2008|11:12 am]
Like any closet bibliophile, the unread pile is a daunting as ever, but is largely composed of comfortable avenues and familiar topics.

Somebody suggest something I ought to read, will enjoy, but has not featured on my radar before.

Things i hate [Oct. 12th, 2008|12:59 am]
I am wide awake, and about to go to bed. The only thing I can hear is a series of very abrasive snores.

When you are drunk and buoying up your life-force with some loud music, the last thing you want to hear is some boring sod snoring his head off.

The really depressing thing is that :
a)I have a job and have to get up on school days
b) I live alone (allegedly) and
c) the above problem have seriously afflicted me on both "non-school" nights this weekend.

I must be missing the point somewhere.

It hardly seems worth it.
